This article is helpful for anyone who is doing any sort of fund raising.
I think it would be good to add: Failure to treat those serving under your authority with the hand of generosity that you would like God to extend to your ministry.
My real life example is a ministry that I was involved with. There was a large volunteer staff of over 50 and a paid staff of 4 or 5. Each month this ministry was running hand to mouth, holding checks to pay when funds came in. The ministry had no assets other than furniture and cash. It was growing, but slowly.
Fortunately, a gentleman, who worked for a secular non-profit organization, became a board member. He was assigned to chair the human resources committee, and quickly found out that our paid staff was being treated poorly compared to staff members at other local non-profits organizations. Over a two year period, we added medical insurance and a pension plan, and raised salaries quite a bit.
It was a pinch and a leap of faith, but we made a decision to treat the paid employees the way we wanted our clients to be treated in the real world.
Though I am no longer on the board, I can say that I believe it was a turning point in the fundraising efforts. Three years later, this group owns two buildings (one excellent facility was totally donated with furnishings and the other was purchased with donated funds); has expanded their services to include a new location, hired additional staff; and is very free to pay bills as they become due.
Give and it shall be given unto you.
